Analysis of VX2457mh:

Strong points:

  • VX2457 MHD comes with support for AMD FreeSync technology which eliminates screen tearing & stuttering by synchronizing GPU with monitor’s refresh rate for ultra-smooth, tear & stutter-free gameplay experience. FreeSync range: 40-75 Hz;
  • 75Hz refresh rate is a noticeable improvement over 60hz, resulting in smoother, more enjoyable & overall improved gaming performance (75Hz over HDMI is supported);
  • The ViewSonic’s 92.2% sRGB coverage is actually pretty decent, delivering somewhat solid color reproduction & accuracy along with great deep black levels thanks to good contrast level. Great results for an entry level product, especially considering it’s using TN panel;
  • Very easy to put together, stand already comes attached to the rear of the monitor so users only need to slide the base into position and secure it with a single preinstalled screw;
  • Very low response time of just 2 ms delivers fast & detailed graphics rendering by ensuring that transitions between fast-moving objects & scenes on-screen appear crisp & highly detailed without the annoying effects of ghosting or smearing;
  • Image quality of Full HD resolution with 93ppi (pixels per inch) pixel density on 24” screen looks sharp & clear, providing users high level of clarity;
  • 300 nits brightness level is great and will leave users with nice & bright images on-screen;
  • Fairly low input lag of around 11.5 ms is pretty good for gaming-, games feel responsive & snappy;
  • ViewSonic’s Black Stabilization feature provides enhanced visibility & detail in dark ares & scenes by brightening & increasing contrast in them, without affecting rest of the image:
  • Very affordable;

Negative points:

  • This monitor comes with 2 x 2 Wat speakers, however they are under powered & provide weak sound quality. For more immersive & enjoyable experience, please consider buying external speaker set or a pair of good headphones;
  • As far as ergonomics go, users only have option to tilt the monitor, to height, swivel & pivot adjustments unfortunately;
  • OSD menu is sluggish & not user-friendly. Buttons are located on the back of the monitor & it feels very clunky using them, takes some time to get used to them. On the top of that, OSD menu options are divided into lots of different categories making navigation even more painful & longer;
  • Design looks somewhat ”cheap” with its thick black bezels & glossy plastic that attracts finger prints & dust used on most of the parts except the rear of the screen, which actually uses matte black texture that looks really nice & helps diminish the ”cheap” look of the monitor. The monitor itself is also pretty thin at 1.8 inches on the side. Unfourtunetaly, the build quality is rather poor, the mechanism can’t keep monitor sturdy so the whole monitor can wobble from time to time;
  • Narrow viewing angles, meaning that viewing the screen at wider viewing angles users will notice significant color shifting & distortion;
  • Panel uniformity is not very good, backlight is uneven & screen suffers from some bad backlight diminishing, especially on the left side. The backlight bleeding thankfully is not as bad, with only slight bleed on the horizontal edges of the screen. Color uniformity is much better though, with only few slight points of variation across the screen, but overall it’s pretty good;
  • It comes with various pre-calibrated pre-set modes that are divided into gaming & non-gaming modes for different viewing/playing experiences, however these gaming modes don’t work well at all, instead they make video games look more pixelated & more jagged. Also, few of those modes have some issues with colors. Gaming modes are very poorly pre-calibrated & pre-optimized, users don’t recommend using them. Thankfully, users share their own well optimized & well calibrated settings online so definitely check those out if You will end up buying this product for better experience;

Conclusion:

ViewSonic VX2457 MHD is somewhat a mixed bag. The biggest reasons to purchase this screen are of course the support for AMD FreeSync which truly enhances gameplay experience by making it much smoother, 75Hz refresh rate is a nice upgrade from 60Hz, low input lag, fast response time, pretty decent color accuracy (for TN panel) with some good deep blacks, full HD res & probably the biggest reason is that super cheap price.

However, this monitor has lots of flaws, starting with very bad panel uniformity, bad design with cheap build quality, pre-set modes that don’t work well, lack of economical adjustments besides option to tilt the monitor, sluggish & clunky OSD menu navigation & design. I don’t recommend buying VX2457 MHD, instead I would definitely recommend saving some more money and go for higher quality & better performing monitors in order to get that desirable great gaming & entertainment experience without many compromises. But for those who are low on budget & want that FreeSync technology, low response time & input lag with Full HD res, this might just be for You.
