Samsung C27HG70 Review – Curved 1440p HDR Gaming Monitor

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. This revolutionary technology is used to make your TV shows, movies and games look more believable and richer in detail. It works by increasing contrast, improving color depth, creating deeper dark and brighter whites and by featuring a wider color pallet. The overall image on-screen becomes noticeably more vivid, natural and life-like looking. HDR adds a new sense of depth and intensiveness to the overall gaming/watching experience. This is the refreshing and exciting new way to enjoy the world of gaming and movies.

Strong points:

  • Very elegant, sleek & gorgeous design with slim stand & matte black & metallic grey finish. Design is a beautiful mix between high-class business monitor and high-quality gaming monitor;

  • Fully adjustable stand allows for height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments;
  • Great variety of connectivity options;
  • Display’s OSD menu system is very super-friendly and comfortable to navigate (controlled by mini-joystick);
  • CHG70 is equipped with 144op resolution which looks pin-sharp on 27” screen due to high pixel desnity of 103 ppi (pixels per inch), therefore monitor is able to distribute pristine and crisp image quality with stunning level of crispness and picture clarity;
  • Amazing implementation of HDR makes any content which supports HDR  appear much more life-like on-screen. Users are getting deeper blacks & clearer whites, higher brightness, more detailed and accurate colors as well as greater color depth & color richness, better contrast and greater range of colors. In other words- enhanced color performance;
  • High brightness level (350 nits in SDR mode, 600nits in HDR mode);
  • Great out of the box color calibration;
  • Curvature effect creates more immersive gameplay experience;
  • Very good viewing angles (178°(Horizontal)/178°(Vertical)) let users enjoy and appreciate gorgeous picture quality when watching the screen at wide angles from any side. Users don’t have to worry about any annoying color shifting or distortion when sharing the screen with someone to play locally or watch movies together. However, excpect some noticeable color shifting when viewing the screen at extreme angles (but honestly, who watches the screen that way?);
  • CHG70 is equipeed with low 1ms response time (which is achieved using samsung’s latest advanced motion blur reduction technology) to deliver quick graphics rendering for crisp and detailed picture quality, especially during fast-mowing scenes in-games. Thanks to such low response time, CHG70 renders transtions and quick motions between fast-paced scenes and rapidly-mowing objects on-screen smoothly and crisply by completely eliminating image blurring effects such as ghosting or smearing, resulting in a very detailed image quality at all times;
  • Insanely-fast 144Hz refresh rate provides very smooth and responsive transitions between each frame and motion that’s happenning on the screen in-game to deliver seamless gameplay experience;
  • This monitor is supplied with AMD FreeSync 2 technology for super-smooth gaming experience. FreeSync completely eliminates issues like in-game juddering and screen-tearing by synchronizing display’s refresh rate with GPU’s produced framerate, therefore resulting in fluid & lag-free gameplay. In comparison to its predecessor, FreeSync 2 is compatible with HDR, meaning that players can enjoy glorious HDR feature and use freesync simultaneously, and results are spectacular. Also, the support for LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) is fully featured here to prevent as much stuttering as possible during those very low framretaes that are below fressync’s range. FreeSync range: 48-144Hz. However, keep in mind that LFC remains active during FPS drops below monitor’s FreeSync range, to effectively minimize sutter as much as possible;
  • Very low input lag (4ms) ensures highly responsive and reactive gameplay by significantly minimizing the latency between pressing a button and seeing the action hapenning on the screen in game;
  • Flicker-Free & Low Blue Light technologies protect user’s eyes from strain, fatigue & other vision related issues that might occur from long sessions in front of the monitor;

Neutral points:

  • Doesn’t come with built-in speakers. The reason why I think it’s a neutral point, is because the absence of speakers result in lower price of the monitor itself . Plus, usually built-in speakers aren’t very high quality (there are exceptions) so users most likely will still end up buying external speaker set or headphone set;

Negative points:

  • Pricey;
