LG 29UM68-P

LG 29UM68-P is an affordable Full HD Ultra-wide FreeSync gaming monitor that aims to deliver great gaming experience alongside strong color performance thanks to its high quality IPS panel. Lets see how 29UM68-P performs & what users can expect from it:

LG 29UM68-P

Specifications:

  • Resolution: 2560 x 1080p (FHD);
  • Screen size: 29”inch;
  • Aspect ratio: 21:9;
  • Refresh rate: 75Hz;
  • Panel type: IPS;
  • Response time: 5ms;
  • Brightness: 250 cd/m2;
  • Connectivity: DisplayPort 1.2 x 1, HDMI 1.4 x 2, headphone jack;
  • AdaptiveSync tech: AMD FreeSync;
  • FreeSync range: out of the box 40-75Hz, however users found way to extend it to 30-80Hz- Here is how to make it happen:
  • Input lag: around 10ms;
  • Coating of the display: anti-glare/matte;

Strong points:

  • In terms of design, 29UM68-P doesn’t disappoint. In fact, it exceeded many users expectations. Design is simple, yet classy and rather professional looking with very thin bezels. Unfourtunetaly, it uses glossy finish on parts that attracts dust and finger prints;
  • While most of the monitors parts are made out of plastic, they definitely don’t feel ”cheap”, in fact they feel somewhat well-made and keep monitor steady. Solid build quality;
  • Color reproduction on 29UM68 with its 8 bit panel bit depth and 99% sRGB coverage is surprisingly strong, leaving users with vibrant and dense colors that remain pretty accurate & consistent throughout. Very impressive color performance for budget-friendly display (the results are much better than other cheap IPS products); LG 29UM68-P
  • 2560 x 1080p resolution alongside 93ppi (pixels per inch) pixel density delivers clear and crisp image quality with good level of detail and clarity on-screen;
  • AMD FreeSync technology eliminates screen-tearing and stuttering by synchronizing the monitor with GPU, there for providing users buttery-smooth, lag-free & screen tearing-free gameplay experience. (FreeSync range- 40Hz – 75Hz, however You can extend it to 30-80Hz, here is how:);
  • Panel uniformity is surprisingly pretty good with its minimal backlight bleed;
  • Comes with various pre-calibrated gaming presets, such as: FPS and RTS, for different gaming experiences;
  • Black Stabilizer technology allows for more visibility in dark areas in-game. It increases the contrast in black levels while not affecting other areas. Users can choose different contrast levels to their preference;
  • Screen Split 2.0 feature allow users to adjust and split their desktop working space into different windows with various sizes to enhance productivity and multi-tasking performance;
  • 2560 x 1080p is not that demanding on hardware, users with mid-range gaming PCs will be able to achieve high/stable framretaes with good visual fidelity;
  • 75Hz refresh rate is still noticeable improvement over 60Hz. Users are getting smoother and more fluid gameplay experience; LG 29UM68-P
  • Wide viewing angles allow users to enjoy great picture quality with minimal color shifting and distortion even at extreme angles;
  • Low input lag makes for highly responsive & snappy controls and movements in-game;
  • Very affordable;
  • Support for VESA mount compatibility;

Neutral points:

  • No built-in speakers, which in my opinion is a good thing because usually built-in speakers on the monitors, especially in entry-level ones aren’t really high quality and they offer rather weak sound quality. Users would still end up buying external speaker set or headphones for more immersive experience. Plus, no speakers means lower price;

Negative points:

  • Lack of USB ports;
  • Glossy plastic leaves finger prints and attracts dust;
  • 75Hz refresh is great and more than enough for casual gaming but it might not suit competitive gaming scene/ competitive gamers needs;
  • 29UM68 doesn’t offer any kind of adjustability besides tilting the monitor;
  • While 250 nits brightness is relatively decent, a higher brightness level would be a very nice addition, however it’s hard to complain when You consider the price on the monitor;

Conclusion:

If You are AMD GPU owner and looking for ultra-wide screen gaming experience and don’t want to spend huge amount of money while also get good gaming performance, then LG 29UM68 is what You need. Users get high quality IPS panel with stunning color performance, great image quality, support for AMD FreeSync, cool & useful features and all of this for very affordable price. The addition of adjustable stand would be awesome though. The 75Hz refresh rate perfectly suits casual gamer needs but competitive gamers might find LG 29UM68 to be lacking in this area. Honestly, this is one of the best if not the best ultra-wide screen gaming monitors out there in this price range that you can get. Very impressive performance for the budget-friendly product.

  1. That is a blistering monitor for the price.

    I will get one.

    1440p native resoution suits me right down to the ground as I currently run 1440p through Super Virtual Resolution on a 1080p display which, while looks good and generally works, isn’t the most efficient way to do it and not the best for visuals.

    Thanks for this. I have bookmarked this page.
