PLEASE NOTE: There is Acer XB271HU and Asus MG278Q versions with TN panel. The difference between IPS and TN versions:

  • TN panel offers faster response time- 1ms compared to IPS 4ms. It’s worth pointing out that the difference between these response times is rather small, most users would not even be able to tell the difference between two. Still, it delivers some minor improvements to graphics rendering by making it faster. Quick transitions and fast-mowing objects on-screen will appear a tiny bit detailed and clearer, less blurry (minimizes ghosting);
  • Tn panels don’t have as wide viewing angles as IPS. IPS has better contrast and consistency across a range of viewing angles;
  • IPS panels have significantly better color reproduction, accuracy, contrast compared to TN but that doesn’t mean TN panels can’t provide beautiful results. In our cases with XB271HU and MG278Q TN versions, the results are very good. Colors are vivid, rich and dense- it’s amazing what results can be achieved with proper utilization of TN panel. The IPS panels just take it to the next level;
  • TN panel monitors are significantly cheaper than IPS;
  • TN panels offer users (as of right now) refresh rate that goes beyond 144Hz (keep in mind that 144Hz is more then plenty for super-smooth gameplay experience). But for those that look for the ultra-smooth gaming experience, please check my Best 240Hz Gaming Monitor list with reviews;

  1. Hi Evald,

    These are very nice monitors. If you don’t mind asking, do you favor Asus? Most of the monitors on here is Asus.

    If price is not a concern here, what about BenQs and other brands? Or are they not as good? Just wondering.

    Still, these are very nice. Great descriptions and specifications!

    1. Hello Hung,

      Thank You so much ! 😉 I am really glad You liked my reviews 🙂

      I really love Asus however I am open for all brands. There are other brands just likes asus that are on the top of the game for example Acer, Benq, MSI, LG, BenQ, Samsung. Also there are some very impressive & strong performing displays from AOC, Viotek brands. All of these brands have their own really high quality products. You can check my other articles, I am sure You will find different kind of brands & their good quality products there 😉

      Have a nice day Hung! 😉

      Cheers,

      Evald

  2. Your top pick looks pretty awesome. It’s got a lot of positive feedback on Amazon which is a huge selling point for me whenever I buy anything.

    I am a console player myself. I still have the old Xbox360, but would like to take a shot at PC gaming. Is there a big learning curve to learning gaming on the computer whenever your used to the controller and console?

    If I were to choose a monitor the ASUS ROG SWIFT would be high on my list for ones to get. Thanks for the review.

    1. Hey Jason 😉

      Thank You for taking Your time to read my reviews & comment 😉 I am glad You have found my reviews to be helpful 🙂 I really appreciate it !

      I would say it really depends on what kind of games genre You play. If we talk about Shooters, on PC with mouse & keyboard You will feel right at home, trust me 😉 Playing this genre on PC with mouse & keyboard will give You better accuracy & faster/more steady precision. Shooters on PC definitely benefit greatly from mouse & keyboard & You will love it I am sure 😉  I still play shooters on consoles (PS4) because there are really amazing console exclusives out there & I am used to both controller & mouse 🙂 They both feel natural to me 😀

      On the other hand, driving games & action adventure games I prefer playing with controller- it just feels better to me, but that is my opinion & many may not agree 🙂 personal preference here 🙂 You really have to try & decide for Yourself what works best for You 🙂 Remember, You always have option to connect controller to pc & play it that way 🙂

      If You have any questions feel free to message me 😉 Have a nice day Jason 🙂

      Cheers,

      Evald

  3. Hi Evald,

    that’s a great review you put up there. I’m sitting in front of a 10 year old Dell 19:10 screen 60 Hz screen and thinking about upgrading some time soon. What is your take on those Ultra Wide Screens? And: Would you rather go for a high resolution or prefer a higher refresh rate?

    Let me know your thoughts! 🙂

    Cheers,
    chris

    1. Hey Chris 😉

      Thank You for taking Your time to read my reviews & comment 😉 I appreciate it! I am glad You liked them 🙂

      As far as Ultra Wide monitors go, I personally find them to be really awesome! The reason why, is because they make gameplay experience more immersive, intensive & believable. They also add that extra depth to the overall presentation. You can check out my best ultrawide gaming monitor list with short, informative reviews if You are interested 😉

      To answer Your question whether I prefer going with higher res or higher refresh rate, I have to say I mix both. I love beautiful, crisp visuals but I also truly admire & appreciate smooth gameplay experience, that’s why it is very important to me to find the right balance between them. I like playing at native 1080p res with locked 60FPS (or 60+ if there is possibility to go higher) with pretty good visual settings. I would say it all depends on hardware, if Your hardware allows You to squeeze  high framerates while also maintaining high resolution than go for mix, if You are somewhat limited with hardware then definitely target framerate over visuals/resolution 😉

      I hope this was helpful 😉 feel free to message me anytime 😉

      Cheers,

      Evald

  4. This is really cool. i have an 12 year old son and he is always up in his room playing call of duty or fortnite. I honestly don’t see how you can be stuck playing a game all day and don’t get tired of it.
    But anyways he’s been nagging me everyday about getting him one of these gaming monitors. His birthday is coming up so I thought, why not.
    But there are just so many monitors to choose from and I don’t want to pick the wrong one. This article really cleared up my decision. Definitely going to check some of these out.

  6. I have developed the addiction of pc games since 1 year and now I want to take it to the next level by having a proper gaming pc. I think a good monitor will enhance the gaming experience, but since I am not that much into the technical stuff I am a bit confused. I think ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q might be a good option. What do you suggest?

    1. Hey there 😉

      Sorry for the late reply. Thank You for taking Your time to read and comment on my article, I appreciate it! I am very glad You enjoyed my reviews 😉

      As far as suggestions go, well all of these monitors presented in this article share a lot of similiar specifications, and features, however one major difference is obviously the variable refresh rate technologies- Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync. It’s pretty simple to choose which one to go with depending on what GPU You have- Nvidia G-Sync is only compatible with Nvidia GPU and FreeSync only with AMD GPU, so if You are running with Nvidia GPU- go with G-Sync monitor to utilize this very useful and game-changing technology and vice versa 😉

      If You have any questions, feel free to message me 😉

      Cheers,

      Evald
