Strong points:

  • X27 has a very premium-looking, gaming-oriented and futuristic, almost sci-fi looking design with sleek matte black finish used on the front and rear parts of the monitor, alongside aggressive, angular solid metal base;
  • The monitor itself is pretty thick (thickness with stand: 10.0” or 25.3 cm);
  • Build quality is very good. Parts feel robust and well-made, the metal stand keeps monitor nice and study without wobbling, parts don’t make squeak sound when pushed;
  • VESA mount compatible (100 x 100);
  • The screen borders are not too thick but are not super thin as well, they’re somewhat of an average thickness (0.6” or 1.6 cm);
  • Fully adjustable stand allows for great ergonomic options, such as height, swivel, pivot and tilt adjustments;
  • 4ms response time ensures quick and smooth graphics rendering by making the transitions between fast mowing objects and scenes on-screen to appear crisp and highly detailed without the annoying effects of ghosting or smearing; acer predator x27
  • Flicker-free technology is fully featured here to ensure superb viewing comfort for users by eliminating annoying screen flickering which is known to cause eye strain, headaches and insomnia;
  • 120Hz native refresh rate (144Hz overclocked) delivers fluid and seamless gameplay experience by creating silky-smooth motions and transitions between each frame on-screen. The native refresh rate of X27 is 120Hz, although there it can be pushed further by factory overclock which is available in the menu settings, which allows to extend refresh rate from 120Hz to 144Hz;
  • Nvidia G-Sync HDR technology synchronizes GPU’s produced framerate with monitor’s refresh rate to create insanely smooth, responsive and fluid gaming experience by eliminating screen-tearing and stuttering in-game. X27 uses new G-Sync technology which in comparison to old vanilla G-Sync, makes it compatible with HDR, meaning You can enable HDR and G-Sync and use them both simultaneously;
  • HDR10 technology enhances color quality by delivering greater color depth, better contrast to highlight those deep black and bright white levels, offers significantly higher brightness to showcase more detail, improves color detail and accuracy as well as brings greater range of colors and fills them with much more richness and vibrancy compared to SDR image;
  • SDR brightness peak is 300nit and it always stays very close to this target which makes the SDR content on-screen look nice and bright;
  • HDR brightness peak is hovering around 1000 nits which is an excellent peak brightness making HDR content exceptionally bright, vivid and dense;
  • Top notch implementation of high quality IPS panel used here in X27 makes for superb viewing angles which allow users to enjoy beautiful picture quality even at wide angles without color shifting and distortion;
  • Low Blue Light technology further enhances viewer’s comfort by filtering out harmful blue light which is known to cause headaches, eye-strain and other sight related issues that might occur from long gaming sessions;
  • Predator Game Mode feature introduces 8 pre-set display modes to optimize the visuals for different types of games and content; acer predator x27
  • Image quality is razor-sharp and crystal-clear, offering amazing level of detail and clarity on-screen thanks to Ultra HD resolution (4K) and 164ppi (pixels per inch) pixel density on a 27” display;
  • Low input lag makes gaming action feel highly responsive & snappy as well as increases precision in-games;
  • Active cooling fan keeps monitor cool all the time even during long gaming sessions and work quietly;
  • OSD menu is very user-friendly and comfortable to navigate through thanks to joystick control;
  • X27 delivers simply outstanding color performance with its superb implementation of high-end IPS panel with 10bit panel depth, 99% adobe RGB coverage and Quantom Dot technology to provide very accurate, well-saturated & natural-looking colors, filled with vibrancy & richness and on top of that, colors remain highly consistent;
  • Dark Boost feature improves visibility in dark areas in games by brightening them/increasing contrast in them without affecting the rest of the image;
  • Aim Point feature allows for to choose from multiple crosshair options to improve accuracy in-game;
  • Come with both- HDMI and DisplayPort cables;
  • Comes with anti-glare hood which reduces glare from side sources to always ensure best image quality possible;

Negative points:

  • Extremely expensive;
  • I personally would prefer to see 32” screen with 4K resolution for more immersive feeling and to overall appreciate more of that high res, as 27” seem to be a bit to small for such high resolution, but on the bright side- it looks very pristine with such high pixel density;
  • Black uniformity could be better, there is some backlight bleed in few spots as well as decent clouding throughout the screen, pretty disappointing results considering the massive price tag;
  • Contrast ratio is also lacking a bit with the peak of it being around 1600:1 in HDR mode with local dimming. While it is a noticeable improvement over regular IPS displays with 1000:1 native contrast with some of them struggling to even hit that mark and will provide somewhat solid deep and oily blacks, it struggles to compete with superior VA panel contrast ratio of 3000:1. But still, this is so far the best contrast ratio achieved in IPS gaming monitor;

Conclusion:

Acer Predator X27 is a beast of a monitor and one of the first of its kind with its pristine, ultra high definition 4K resolution at blazing-fast refresh rate of 144Hz. On top of that, users are getting premium-looking design with great build quality, superb gaming performance, fully adjustable stand alongside fantastic color performance, HDR10 compatibility, Nvidia G-Sync HDR for the smoothest gaming performance, low response & input lag times as well as other impressive specifications and very useful features and technologies.

Unfourtunetaly, the not so well performing black uniformity and decent contrast ratio fail to justify the ridiculously high price range of 2000$ and limit the presentation of true HDR, holding it from performing at its fullest to deliver those top-notch details in dark and environments. Also, there aren’t any GPUs on the market at the moment that could utilize such high refresh rate at 4K resolution so it would probably make sense to wait for new generation of GPUs to arrive before switching to 4K 144Hz monitors.

While Acer Predator X27 is packed with a lot of great features and offer amazing performance in many areas, in my opinion the price tag is a bit too high so I would definitely recommend waiting for some good price drops later in the future to pick it up.

  2. Great information on this Acer monitor!  My son is a gamer, and he hates the monitor he bought (just a deal on Amazon).  He found this review and showed it to me.  I am now looking at a great Christmas present for my son!  The size is perfect for him, actually bigger than his current monitor with much better specs.  I have an Acer computer, so personally I love the brand.  Thanks for such a great review!
